Fractional CFO / Client Advisory CFO — Fort Wayne, Indiana
More than financial reports.
Help business owners make
better decisions about their future.
This is a client-facing fractional CFO position serving multiple businesses. You will provide outsourced, executive-level financial leadership to a portfolio of clients rather than serve as the internal CFO of ProTax.
The Opportunity
ProTax is seeking an experienced, strategic financial professional to join our team as a Fractional CFO / Client Advisory CFO in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a full-time, in-person position based at 10433 Oak Valley Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46845.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted financial advisor to multiple business clients, providing the strategic insight, financial planning, and executive-level guidance traditionally associated with an in-house Chief Financial Officer.
Rather than managing the finances of a single organization, you will work with a portfolio of businesses, helping owners understand their financial performance, improve cash flow, evaluate opportunities, and plan for sustainable growth.
You'll collaborate with tax, accounting, bookkeeping, and other advisory professionals to provide clients with a more connected financial perspective.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working directly with business owners, translating financial data into actionable recommendations, and building long-term advisory relationships.
What You'll Do
- Serve as an outsourced or fractional CFO for a portfolio of business clients, providing ongoing financial leadership and strategic guidance.
- Meet regularly with business owners and leadership teams to review financial performance, discuss challenges, and establish priorities.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts, operating budgets, cash flow projections, and long-term financial plans.
- Analyze financial statements, operating results, profitability, and business trends to identify risks and opportunities.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) that help clients measure progress toward business goals.
- Help clients evaluate pricing, expenses, margins, working capital, and operational efficiency.
- Provide financial insight for important business decisions, including expansion, major purchases, financing, and investment opportunities.
- Translate complex financial information into understandable, actionable recommendations for business owners.
- Collaborate with tax professionals to coordinate financial planning with business tax considerations.
- Work alongside bookkeeping and accounting teams to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen clients' financial processes, internal controls, reporting, and decision-making.
- Manage multiple client relationships while maintaining clear communication, documentation, and follow-through.
What We're Looking For
- Significant professional experience in financial management, FP&A, controllership, CFO services, or strategic financial advisory.
- Experience preparing and filing federal income tax returns for individuals and businesses, including familiarity with applicable tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and business performance analysis.
- Experience advising business owners, executives, or leadership teams on financial decisions.
- Ability to translate detailed financial information into practical business recommendations.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, particularly when working with non-financial audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple client engagements, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, accounting systems, and financial reporting tools.
- A client-service mindset and the ability to build trusted professional relationships.
- Sound professional judgment, discretion, and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
Additional Experience We Value
- Experience serving multiple companies as a fractional CFO, outsourced CFO, or client advisory professional.
- Background in public accounting, business advisory, or professional financial services.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or a related advanced financial credential.
- Experience supporting small and midsize businesses across different industries.
- Familiarity with financial dashboards, KPI reporting, and business intelligence tools.
